Make Medium your side hustle and not your fill time stint. What do I mean by that?

Medium should only be your bit on the side when it comes to earning money.

That’s because the truth is it’s hard to make money here.

My highest earning month back in 2022 was $425.

That’s not bad by Medium’s standards but it’s not enough to pay the bills.

Instead, have fun on Medium and use it as a platform to help you grow your writing skills.

Then, move on to something bigger and better.

You can put a lot of time into Medium and end up with barely enough money a month to buy a meal in a half-decent restaurant.

That’s not to say Medium’s a bad place to write.

If you feel like your not at the stage to write freelance, Medium might be for you.

But don’t rely on it for your full-time income because that’s likely not going to happen.

Do your day job and then come on Medium to write about things you love.

Use Medium as a hobby that you can gain a little bit of money from.

I used to work as a delivery driver and spent a lot of time on Medium on the side.

If I could go back, I wouldn’t spend so much time on it.

There’s other things to enjoy: your friends, your family, traveling, wining and dining.

Don’t spend your life on Medium hoping to make you pocket rich.

Spend enough time to make it worthwhile, earn a little, and give some back (by way of reads, claps, and highlights).

That way, you can grow a readership and hopefully make it into the top 5% earning $100+ a month.
